At Kennett Area Community Services (KACS), we believe in a future where every person—no matter their background, circumstances, or story—has access to the support and resources they need to thrive. Our doors are open to all. We are a place of safety, dignity, and belonging, where every individual is welcomed with compassion and respect.
KACS began over 70 years ago with one act of kindness—one man providing a holiday meal to 14 families. Today, that simple gesture has grown into a vital network of support serving over 3,000 people each month with food, crisis services, housing, and education. Our mission remains steadfast: to strengthen our community by ensuring that no one faces hardship alone.
This work is only possible because of you—our community. Your generosity, partnership, and belief in our mission ensure that KACS remains a lifeline for those who need us most. Local businesses, elected officials, volunteers, and supporters like you are the foundation of our impact. Together, we are not just providing assistance—we are building a stronger, more connected community.
The challenges before us continue to grow. Over the past year, we’ve seen a 12% increase in households facing poverty in Southern Chester County. In response, we provided direct support to 2,356 households, representing 6,511 individuals, including 455 seniors and 2,019 children. Our food programs alone distributed over 1 million pounds of nutritious food to 5,985 individuals, ensuring families didn’t have to choose between paying bills or putting food on the table.
Beyond food, our Social Services team helped 472 households navigate crisis situations, supported 42 families in their journey from homelessness to stable housing, and provided over 3,300 interactions to help individuals maintain housing stability. Our education programs empowered individuals, with 36 graduates from Getting Ahead workshops and 18 graduates from Financial Empowerment workshops—helping people build the skills and confidence to move forward.
One of our proudest milestones this year is the continued success of our Affordable Housing Program. With the generosity of donors, KACS preserved housing for 18 individuals across three properties, ensuring that families have a stable place to call home. This is more than housing—it’s hope, security, and a foundation for the future.
As we look ahead, our vision remains clear: a thriving community where no one is hungry, homeless, or alone in crisis. KACS is here for everyone, standing as a safe, inclusive space where all people—regardless of race, language, background, or income—can access the resources they need to live with dignity.
