Why Affordable Housing matters:

1 in 4 households struggle to find affordable housing in Chester County. Affordable housing is a home that a family can pay for, while still having money left over for other necessities like food, transportation, and health care. The federal government typically defines housing as affordable when it consumes no more than 30% of a household’s income.

The average rent in Chester County is $1,788 a month, for this to be affordable your annual salary must be at least $71,520. KACS Housing Initiative’s mission is to increase and preserve decent, affordable, and stable housing for individuals and families with limited resources.

Who could benefit from affordable housing? Everyone!

Who is disproportionately impacted by the lack of affordable housing? Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and other Low-wage earning households.

Three things you can do:

  • Support Affordable Housing Nonprofits: Donations to local or national nonprofits can help them create more affordable housing.

  • Advocate for Affordable Housing: Reach out to local representatives to express support for affordable housing.

  • Engaging with the Community: Involve your community in the development of a local housing strategy.
